FURTHER BREAKDOWN

ARGENTINE MEAT TALKS BRITAIN’S “LAST WORD” OFFER REJECTED NZP A—Copyright BUENOS AIRES, Rec. 11 p.m. May 14. The Argentine meat talks have broken down on price, it was learned from Argentine Foreign Ministry sources to-night. The Argentine Ministers of Economy and Finance were understood to have informed the Foreign Minister, Dr Juan Bramuglia, that they could not accept Britain’s latest offer communicated to them today by the Ambassador, Sir John Balfour. The Economics Minister, Senor Roberto Ares, and the Finance Minister. Senor Gomez Morales, were understood to have stressed to Dr Bramuglia the impossibility of accepting Britain’s “ last word ” offer of one peso 10 centavos per kilogram—about 15 cents per lb—at the special rate of 13.53 pesos per £ sterling used in meat transactions. Argentine packing houses maintain that the minimum price should be 40 centavos per kilogram. or 19 cents per lb. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said that as commercial negotiations had now broken down the situation would be handled through diplomatic channels.
