“VOICE OF AMERICA”
RUSSIAN JAMMING LOSES EFFECTIVENESS According to a Dunedin listener, the airwaves “ war ” between Russia and the United States took a decided turn in favour of “ The Voice of America ” shortly after midnight -on Saturday (New Zealand time). Conditions were ideal for reception in Dunedin of the American -broadcast' on the 31-metre band. The strength -of the broadcast appeared to have been increased considerably, and greatly overpowered the Russian “jamming,” which has altered its tone from that resembling a steam express pulling out of a station to a new noise like that made by a sty full of hungry pigs at feeding time. The Russian “jamming” noise in the early hours yesterday morning was merely a “background” to the American broadcast.
