STILL NO RESUMPTION
WATERFRONT AUTHORITY SITTINGS FRUITLESS CORRESPONDENCE Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON, May 15. An exchange of letters between officials of the Waterside Workers’ Union, the chairman of the Waterfront Industry Authority and an employers’ representative has failed to produce a resumption of sittings by the authority. Since April 4, when the chairman, Judge Dalglish, announced the decision to go into recess until such time as the intentions of the Government on the future of the authority were clarified, there has been no sitting and there is no indication when or whether the recent wage pronouncement of the Court of Arbitration will be applied by the authority to watersiders’ wage rates. The watersiders wrote to, Judge Dalglish on April 27 asking for a meeting as early as possible. The judge replied returning the union officials’ letter with the comment that he would neither receive it nor answer it. He added that when he received a letter couched in proper terms, and excluding in particular an objectionable phrase, he would be prepared to answer them.
