MEN’S HOCKEY
Leading Teams Win
Both leading teams in the North Otago Men's Hockey Association's competition registered wins on Saturday. Kakanui beat Oamaru A by 2 goals to nil and Tainui A defeated Tainui B by 6 goals to 1. . Oamaru A was without the services of G. Minty but his place was well filled by N. Goo'dall who played an outstanding game for his first run of the season. Kakanui was short of R. Sowden who has become the mainstay of the side. I. Ryburn. however, who played at centrehalf, Held the team together to enable it to register its win over last year's competition winners. Oamaru A. Rovers would seem to be the most inconsistent team in the competition—last week it drew with Oamaru A and on Saturday was beaten by Oamaru B. At the present time it appears that Kakanui and Tainui A. who have not been beaten, will fight out the 1949 championship. Results:— Senior.—Oamaru B 3. Rovers 2; Tainui A 6, Tainui B 1: Kakanui 2, Oamaru A nil. Intermediate and Junior. —St. Kevin's 4, Oamaru 2; Rovers-St. Patrick’s Combined 3. St. Patrick’s A 2.
