ANZAC AND OTHER DAYS

Sir.—Answering "Rightful Place’’ concerning Anzac Day being a man-made day, so also are Good Friday, Christmas Dav and even Sunday man-made days, and no place is allotted to them in Scripture. Anzac Day is a memorial recognised by free thinker and Christian alike, not so Good Friday which is not recognised as such by free thinkers. Good Friday is associated \vith Easter, which is a festival dedicated to the moon, and took place on full moon at a certain lunar equinox. Endeavouring to facilitate conversions to Christianity, Victor, the first Latin Bishop of Rome, christianised this pagan festival and ordered it to be celebrated on Sunday. There is a legend that Friday was substituted for Sunday because Christ was crucified the dav before the Sabbath, that is, Saturday, and rose on Sunday; hence Sunday is erroneously called the Lord’s Day. Prior to Victor’s edict, the Eastern and Western churches had kept the fourteenth day of the month, irrespective of its place in the week, as the memorial of Christ’s great sacrifice.—l am, etc., Justice.
