ANNUAL MEETING
HANOVER STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
There was a large gathering of members at the eighty-sixth annual meeting of the Hanover Street Baptist Church last Wednesday. The minister, the Rev. E. W. Batts, presided. The secretary reported that there was encouraging progress in all departments of the church, particularly in the youth sections. All accounts were in credit, and for the second year in succession the golden offering had been devoted to forward work. Dr Charles North commended the women of the BWMU, who had contributed the highest missionary giving of all branches in the Dominion. Reference was made to the large amount of renovating that had been undertaken in the past year. The creation of a porch of memory containing photographs of past and present ministers and missionaries was a tribute to those who had helped mould the traditions of the church. Appreciation of the ministry of the Rev. E. W. Batts was expressed both in the report and by the speakers. Three years had been completed, and these were marked by a most happy spirit of friendliness and co-operation within the church. A presentation was made to Mr George Brasier, who retired from office after 26 years of service on the Deacons’ Court and .16 years as convener of the Works Committee. Mr George Megget was re-elected secretary Mr S. C. Hercus minute secretary, and Mr C. S. Hercus treasurer. Dr Charles North and Mr G. Hendry were re-elected to the eldership, and Mr M. Poulter, Mr J. Russell, Mr X. J. Strang, and Mr O. Stott to the Deacons’ Court. Reference to the service of Miss Gladwys Syder as church organist was made. It was reported that 19 new members had been added to the church during the year. After the showing of a colour film of the Sunday school picnic, the meeting closed with family worship.
