Miss Elizabeth Fry, 24-year-old air hostess, receiving the silver salver, presented by Lloyd’s of London, from Mr I. Holyman, managing director of Australian National Airways, at Essendon airfield. Miss Fry, the first air hostess in the world to receive this honour, has been awarded the salver in recognition of her - courage in conducting the passengers from the airliner Karana before it caught fire after it crashed at Mount Macadon, Australia, in November last year.
