FIRE IN SAWDUST

SPECTACULAR BLAZE TIMBER DRYING FIRM The woodwork and frame of a large 3 sawdust bin at the Kilndried Timber • Company’s yard at the corner of Burns and Neville streets, Caversham, 3, were charred yesterday afternoon j when a fire broke out in-the bin. When machines from the Central and South £ Dunedin Fire Brigades arrived on the scene about 1.30 the bin was burning furiously and the flames were bursting through the. roof. Two leads were played on the fire, however, one through a trapdoor on the roof and the other from below, and the blaze -> was under control within 10 minutes. Fortunately the blaze was confined . to the sawdust bin which was attached • to the boiler house and kilns, and was near the timber racks. At no stage was there danger of the fire spreading.

It was presumed that the cause of S the fire was a spark from the boiler room blown through the open door into the sawdust and wood trimmings. The bin is a large wooden-framed structure with corrugated iron sheets linihg the outside of the walls. Some of the sheets had, to be pulled away to enabjg the firemen to attack the Seat of the outbreak. ,
