CLEAR-CUT VICTORY UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT PA WELLINGTON, Apl. 19. As a result of the University tennis finals this morning, Otago won the Tournament Shield, scoring 31 points. Auckland was second with 271 points. Canterbury scored 253 and Victoria 18. The Tennis Shield was won by Canterbury. Results: — Men’s Singles.—J. E. Robson (Otago) beat E. D. White (Canterbury) 6—l, 6—o. Women’s Singles.—Miss J. Macgibbon (Canterbury) beat Miss Wilson (Auckland) 6—2, 6—3. Women’s Doubles.—Misses C. Neave and B. Sparrow (Otago) beat Misses L. Holland and M. Bird (Canterbury) 9—7, 6—l. Men’s Doubles.—Robson and D. Green (Otago) beat White and B. Penfold (Canterbury) 6—3, 6—l. New Athletic Records Records were again broken when the athletic championships were concluded yesterday. Outstanding competitors were D. R. Batten (Canterbury) and J. M. Holland (Auckland), each pf whom won three titles. • The 120 Yards Hurdles was won by Holland (Auckland) in the fast time of 15sec, but this improvement on his new record of Saturday was disallowed because of the following wind. The former champion, W. Muirhead (Otago), was second. Holland succeeded again In the 440 Yarc}s Hurdles, when he defeated the former champion, R. Gordon (Otago), and in the 220 Yards Hurdles. New records were established in the Shot Putt, Three-mile Flat, Women’s High Jump, and Relay. A new record time by J. Team for Australia A team of 10 New Zealand university athletes to compete against Australian University representatives in Australia next month was announced to-night. The team which will leave New Zealand on May 20, will be in Australia for three weeks, and will compete in Sydney, and possibly Melbourne. It will consist of D. R. Batten (Canterbury). J. H. Borland (Otago) D. Culav (Auckland), G. G. H. Gilmour (Auckland), J. C. Grierson (Auckland), J C. Hawke (Victoria), C M. Kay (Auckland). J G. S. Myles (Auckland), J. D Sinclair (Otago), and J. S. Williams (Canterbury). The manager will be Mr J. E Miller (Canterbury). The Olympic representative, J M. Holland, of Auckland, was ineligible for selection. . Useful Cricket Score A feature of the New Zealand Univer sity v. Wellington cricket match to-day was another fine innings by the Auckland player and University captain, T. U Wells, who compiled 90. This gives him the big average of 180 for his three innings here. He hit 14 4’s to-day. University were all out late in the afternoon for 294. Tire Wellington batsman, R. Wilde, was another who impresed. He hit two glorious straight 6’s over the long boundary and another backward of square-leg. His total was 56, made in fast time.
