LANCE ART WINS

EASTER HANDICAP AT BEAUMONT SANDY RIDGE’S DOUBLE The dual successes of Sally Gazelle and Sandy Ridge were a feature of the first day of the Beaumont Racing Club’s Easter meeting. Lance Art was returned a comfortable winner in the Easter Handicap, in which he was ridden by his trainer, E. E. Hunt. Hunt was also successful with Weldrest, who relished the heavy track. Sire was paraded in great order. Sally Gazelle trailed the leaders in both her racts, coming on in the straight for easy victories. She should race well against a better class of horse than she beat at Beaumont when conditions suit her. Governor’s First Win Haughty Lass, Chasemint and Skip received the worst of a straggling start in the Trial Handicap. Friar Phillip led out from Ensemble, Governor and Ruth's Pal, with Red Money at the head of the rest. The order was unchanged to the straight, where Governor received a good run through on the inside to win going away by two lengths from Friar Phillip, with the same distance back to Lady Hotspur, who finished from the back. The next to finish were Ensemble (fourth', Vain Lad, The Sticker and Red Money. Sally Gazelle Succeeds Only four starters went to the post in the Happy Valley Hack Handicap, but the race resulted in a fine tussle between Sally Gazelle and Milly Mandy over the last two furlongs. Sally Gazelle was slow away, and Silver Spray and Milly Mandy led out. After a furlong Silver Spray almost fell, and Milly Mandy went on in the lead by 10 lengths from Silver Spray and Sally Gazelle, with Lecturer tailed off. Sally Gazelle bridged the gap and joihed Milly Mandy just after the two. Silver Spray fell turning into the straight, and Sally Gazelle carried on to beat Milly Mandy by a neck, with Lecturer beaten off. Easy for Sandy Ridge

After being handily placed throughout, Sandy Ridge came away in the President's Trot Handicap to beat Reay Dillon by two lengths, with a big gap back to Bradley. Jacquard and Happy Joe broke at the start. Leyte Hall and Solandri were first to show out from Armadillo, Sandy Ridge, Happy Joe, who settled down quickly, Diligent and Vauxhall Queen. Diligent and Vauxhall Queen broke after six furlongs. Plausible and Bradley showed a lot of pace, but they could not bridge the gap to Sandy Ridge and Reay Dillon, who were 10 lengths clear. Sandy Ridge stuck on well to win by two lengths from Reay Dillofi, with a gap of 10 lenfths to Bradley, who was closely followed by Vauxhall Queen, Leyte Hall and Diligent. Lance Art In Easter Handicap ' Gold Lance took charge of his rider before the start of the Easter Handicap and bolted a round before he could be pulled up. Lance Art was always up with the leaders, and he carried on to win by a length from Siegform, with three lengths back to Amorlad. Lance Art and Gold Lance were the early leaders from Sailor Boy. Siegform, Detain, and Amorlad. Gold Lance started to drift, and Siegform took over from Lance Art at the half, and he led into the straight from Lance Art, with Sailor Boy and Amorlad next Lance Art was confidently ridden to beat Siegform, with Amorlad finishing on in third place. Sailor Boy was fourth, with Detain and Gold Lance beaten off. YVeldrest’s Solid Finish Weldrest, who was taken over by E. E. Hunt after the Cromwell meeting, came into her own in the Weatherstones Hack Handicap. She came from well back with two furlongs to go and won by three-quarters of a length from Cricket Field, with half a length back to Philip Laing. Tympani, Royal Venture, and Mature got the worst of the start, and Philip Laing ,went away to a four-length lead from Cricket Field, with a similar distance back to Irish King, who was shading Bonne Nuit and Weldrest. Cricket Field took over at the two and led into the straight from Bonne Nuit and Weldrest. Weldrest finished well to take the decision from Cricket Field, with Philip Laing third ahead of Irish King, Bonne Nuit, who could not get clear, and Mature. Sally Gazelle Again

Sally Gazelle completed a double for the day when she accounted for the field in the Wood Memorial Handicap. She was back in fourth place for most of the journey, but she settled the issue when she took the lead with a furlong to go. Great Chase fell after two furlongs, and Tattoo fell when coming into the straight. Millv Mandy Tattoo, Gipsy Major, and Asaf Jah were first out, Milly Mandy holding her lead until,the straight, when she was tackled by Sally Gazelle. Sally Gazelle carried on to win by a length and a-half from Milly Mandy, who lasted long enough to hold off the fast-finishing Cover Drive by a nose. Gipsy Major was fourth, with a gap to Asaf Jah. Money Bird in Sprint

Money Bird was always in the first two, and be made no race of the Stewards' Handicap, winning easily by three lengths from Revivre, with Bonny'Royal shading Prize Ring for third. Compeer and Money Bird were first to show out, but Revivre soon joined Money Bird in the lead, with Compeer and Prize Ring next. Bonny Royal was well back after being left at the start. Money Bird strode away in the straight to beat Revivre. Bonny Royal finished from the back to snatch third money from Prize Ring, with Compeer beaten off. Warm Favourite Unplaced

Sierra Sue was made the hottest favourite of the day in the Tuapeka Trot, but she did not flatter her supporters at any stage of the race, the winner turning up in Sandy Ridge, who had won earlier in the day. He had been rehandicapped 43yds for his success, but he began well and was soon within striking distance of Shadova, Cuff Link, Impossible and Shareholder, who were in the lead. Impossible took charge at the turn and led into the straight from Sandy Ridge and Play Hall, who had made a f-ast move. Sandy Ridge and Play Hall had a stern tussle over the last furlong, but the former held on by a neck, with' 10 lengths back to Impossible, who was clear of Shadova, with a long gap back to Sierra Sue and Cuff Link.
