UNGAR DEFEATS HIGH-CLASS FIELD Rec. 7 p.m. MELBOURNE, Apl. 17. The three-year-old Ungar defeated the best Melbourne sprinters in the £3OOO Victoria Handicap at Flemington. He raced through on the inside after entering the straight to defeat the South Australian. Beau Gem, with the unlucky New Zealander, Ellerslie, a close third. Ellerslie was boxed soon after the start, and forced back to near last. He was checked again at the ' top of the straight, and afterwards his saddle was found to have slipped. Results:— Easter Handicap.—New Cashmere, 8 9 (Bougoure), 1: Royal Title, 7.13 (Eamesj. 2; Chatspa. 8.9 (Phillips), 3. Thirteen started. Half a head, half a length. Time, 2min Bsec. Victoria Handicap.—Ungar, 8.9 (Barclay), 1; Beau Gem. 8.11 (Heather), 2; Ellerslie, 8.8 (Bougoure), 3. Eighteen started. Neck, half a neck. Time, lmin 243 sec. We stall Trial Stakes. Vonrdi, 8.5 (Smith), 1; Hoyle, 8.7 (Fitzgerald). 2; Lynette, 7.10 (Powell). 3. Eighteen started. Half a head, a length and a-half. Time, 2min 34sec.
