Berlin Buzzes with Rumours that Soviet Is to Lift Blockade
New Zealand Press Association—Copyright Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Apl. 16. Berlin is buzzing with rumours that the blockade is about to be lifted, says the correspondent of the Daily Herald. Everyone is convinced there is something in the air. Senior Western Powers’ officials, however, are not taking the slightest chance with the rumours. They reiterate that no talks on German or Berlin problems can begin before the blockade is lifted. The United States Military Governor, General Lucius Clay, said he did not share the general optimism. He said: “There have been no signs of any Russian approach. If it had happened at a governmental level I am absolutely sure I should have heard about it.”
