FIRE HOSE
INCREASED SUPPLIES REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT Special to the Daily Times OAMARU, Apl. 17. “I have little doubt that when the central organisation is formed it will realise that competitions are necessary to keep the smaller brigades active.” said Mr H. Girling-Butcher, inspector of fire brigades, at the conference of the Southern Districts Fire Brigades’ Sub-association of Otago and Southland, on Friday night. Mr Girling-Butcher was replying to a suggestion by Kaitangata delegates that more hose should be made available for brigades taking part in demonstrations. Kaitangata -delegates pointed out that their hose position was' becoming acute and the 200 ft received by them was inadequate fbr training and demonstration purposes. Mr Girling-Butcher agreed that fire brigades should be in a position to secure all the hose they required for competition and service work, and also to replace their diminishing stocks. During the war only second grade hose was distributed, Mr Gir-ling-Butcher said, and the only possibility of building up supplies was for the proposed central authority to insist that an adequate supply of hose be procured every year. The Government should be informed that it was essential for the efficiency of the service that- adequate supplies of hose were available for both service and competition work, Mr Girling-Butcher added. The incoming executive was asked .to put the matter before the appropriate authorities
