NOT CONTRAVENED

ANGLO-SOVIET TREATY EFFECT OF ATLANTIC PACT NZPA—Copyright LONDON Apl. 13. The British Government has sent a Note to the Soviet Embassy in London denying that the North Atlantic Treaty contravenes the Anglo-Soviet Treaty of 1942. It answers the Soviet Note of March 31. The British Note says that the British Government cannot admit tnat the Atlantic pact is contrary to Article 7 of the treaty with the Soviet Union, which forbids the entry of either party into a coalition directed against the other, since “the North Atlantic Treaty is directed solely against aggression itself.” The British Note also denied that the Atlantic pact ran counter to the obligations for post-war allied co-operation. The Note countercharged the Soviet Government with unfaithfulness to the 1942 Anglo-Soviet Treaty. It said that the British Government failed to understand how Moscow interpreted its obligation under the treaty pot to seek territorial aggrandisement, and not to Interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
