PAY-OUT TO AUSTRALIAN WATERSIDERS

SYDNEY, Apl. 8. Statistics compiled from returns from the Central Pay Office covering all ports show that Australian wharf labourers were paid £A5.104,805 in wages for the six months ended December 31, 1948. The average weekly earnings was £lO 9s 8d for 35.15 hours' work. The highest paid port was Lucinda Point in the North Queensland sugar area, where the average earnings was £23 19s 5d a week.
