GRAND OPERA

SEASON IN DUNEDIN Great interest is being taken in the approaching season of J. C. Williamson’s Grand Opera Company, which is to open at His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday. May 5, in Puccini's lovely opera, “ Madame Butterfly,” which is to be followed by the first production in Dunedin of Verdi’s very spectacular opera, “Aida,” then “ La Boheme,” "La Tosca,” “ Rigoletto ” and " Ivlanon.” The opening nights of the company in Auckland and Wellington proved memorable occasions. All the seats in the theatre were filled, and the Italian artists received a remarkable reception. At the end of the performance they had to bow their acknowledgments over and over again to the demands of the audience. Already the number of seats which have been applied for in Dunedin is equal to that recorded at Auckland and Wellington, and the company is therefore assured for a successful season here.
