COMMITTED FOR TRIAL
CONSPIRING TO FORGE ALLEGED PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 30. Three men appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day charged with conspiring to forge on January 20, 1949, a Bank of Australasia cheque for £420. They were Clifford Fox, a carpenter, aged 26, Sydney Whakataka, a labourer, aged 27, and William Lewis Austin, a carpenter, aged 25. All pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Fox was also charged, with Richard Stanley Wratten, aged 27, a carpenter, with forging a £360 cheque on February 10. Both accused pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Fox and Wratten were also charged with Harry Gordon, aged 23, a steward, with forging a £750 cheque on February 11. Fox and Gordon pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Wratten pleaded guilty and was committed to'the Supreme Court for sentence. Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., was on the bench, and Detective Sergeant W. S. Craigie prosecuted.
