RENEGE HAS BEEN RACING CONSISTENTLY

Few horses have raced more consistently this season than the Defaulter mare Renege, who has been unplaced only five times in 22 starts. She has won twice, been placed second seven times, third once, and fourth seven times. Both her wins were scored at West Coast meetings, at which she has been frequently raced. One of her best performances was in the Ashburton Handicap, in which she finished second to Clyde Bridge, among those who finished behind her being Magnaform, Lord Elgin, Aganev, Graeme, and Revolte. Renege was handicapped at 8.9 for the Waimate Cup and although she does not make any particular appeal as the likely winner, she will no doubt be popular with place bettors if she goes to the post. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT “ Ten Bob,” Dunedin.—R. J. Mackie has ridden the winner of the Great Autumn Handicap on two occasions. He was successful on Hynanna in 1928 and on The Joker in 1943. Jottings Acceptances for the Otautau Racing Club’s meeting on April 9 close to-morrow. The Bircbwood Hunt Club intends applying for a date in May to compensate it for the meeting which was postponed on Saturday. Real Raid, who has been unplaced in his four starts this season, has been nominated for the Tasman Stakes, a weight-for-age race to be run on the_ second day of the Great Autumn meeting. He is trained at Wingatui. Trafalgar Day to Resume Trafalgar Day, who has been off the scene since the second day of the Wellington Cup meeting, is to resume racing on the second and third days of the Great Autumn meeting. He is now trained at Riccarton, and is reported to be in good order for his forthcoming engagements. 1 A Solid Performance Knight Crusader ran a solid race to finish third in the High-weight Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday and he should lack nothing on the score of condition for the hurdle events at Riccarton. Stablemates In the Auckland Cup, Frances, the winner, carried 7.7, and The Grate, who finished seventh, had 7.5. Since then The Grate has won the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton and the Autumn Handicap at Trentham, and in the Great Autumn Handicap she is required to give Frances 91b. At the weights Frances looks the more likely to add to the Wilson stable's record. Finished Well Grill finished on solidly for fifth in the Gardiner Memorial Handicap on Saturday, giving his first glimpse of form for some time. Early Win Likely Duvaals has gone on the right way since the Cromwell meeting and in his present form he should pick up a stake before long. Good Beginner The turning course at Waimate will suit a good beginner like Bren Gun, but taking a line through form on the second day at Oamaru Saieda should finish in front of the Wingatui-trained horse. Doulton Retired The Salmagundi stallion Doulton, who went amiss earlier in the season, has been retired and will take up stud duties next spring. He has been secured by Mr A. W. Cundall, of Invercargill, and will he located at West Plains. Now a four-year-old, he was one of the second last crop sired by Salmagundi. He is one of the few of "that sire’s progeny to be left entire and his stud career will be followed with interest. Tea Party, the dam of Doulton, by Tea Tray, was possessed of brilliant speed and in addition to Doulton left Tea For Two, Absentee, Dinner Music (the dam of String Band) and others.
