To-morrow Night’s Business The following committee reports and recommendations will come before the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council to-morrow night:— Finance.—Recommends that the Otago Labourers’ and Related Trades Union of Workers be advised that the schedule of claims for a new labourers’ award were not acceptable to the council; that the suggested covering letter to the Loans Board be approved and that if the board desired a deputation, Crs McEwan, Stubbs and the town clerk constitute the deputation; that the engineer be instructed to investigate and report on the possibility of forming a road through from Weaver • street to Foyle street with a view to eventually extending the road through to Caledonian road. Water. —Recommends that the council submit to the Public Works Department for consideration by the s ° ll c ™^' a tion Council a scheme to combat erosion at the race intake. . _„ ort By-laws.—Recommends that the report from the engineer and superintendent ot the Fire Brigade on their inspection ck licensed public halls be received and the licensees written to accordingly, that the request from the Dental Committee for permission to build a small waitmg room in poilite on to the clinic room be granted. Library.—Recommends that the question of making preliminary arrangements in connection with alterations to the Athenaeum Building be left with the chairman to report. ~ Works.—Recommends that the question of making the council’s grader available to the North Otago War Memorial Committee to assist in the preparation of the ground in the War Memorial area be lett with the engineer to make the necessary arrangements; that the list submitted by the engineer of work already authorised, together with suggested work to be carried out be approved. Reserves.—Recommends that the cnanman and superintendent be requested to arrange a meeting with the North OamaVu Citizens’ Association to formulate a plan for laying out Roberts Park; that all sports clubs be invited to submit applications for playing areas for winte sports, and that these be referred to the Sports Bodies’ Association for recommendations; that the request of the North Otago Rugby Union for the use of Takaro Park be referred to the Sports Bodies Association; that Mr J. H. Main be advised that the area selected for a children’s playground on Reserve B was now ii„ order and readv for equipment, whicli he agreed to provide. Baths.—Recommends that the unexpended allocation of £284 for baths improvements during the year 1948-49 be made available for the year 1949-50 without prejudice to any further allocation for the latter period.
