JAMAICAN GRAPEFRUIT
FURTHER CONSIGNMENT TO ARRIVE TOMATO SUPPLIES IMPROVE A few cases of Jamaican grapefruit have been received by the city fruit marts and a further consignment is expected to arrive during the week. Supplies of pears and Dunn’s and Delicious apples were immediately taken up by city retailers. Supplies of iomatoes were short but improved on Monday. Peaches and nectaries of choice quality have a good inquiry, but no lemons have so far been received. Tne first grapes, Gros Colmar, arrived on Monday and have met with a steady demand. Passion fruit is in heavy supply and prices are low. Quinces and corncob are slow of sale. High prices arc ruling for cabbages and cauliflower, which are in short supply. Peas have a better inquiry and swedes are in demand, but lettuce and silver beet are slow of sale. Pumpkins from the North Island have a steady inquiry. Parsnips are short of requirements, but carrots are in good supply. Pickling onions have a steady demand.
