Wistful thoughts of the New Zealand cricket team's voyage to England were no doubt passing through the mind of G. H. Mills, the Otago wicket-keeper-batsman, as he leaned over the rail of an overseas ship in port. It is generally agreed that Mills was nearer than any other Otago player to selection in the New Zealand team, and his omission caused widespread disappointment throughout Otago.
