THE PRINCIPAL EVENTS

RIZZIO NEVER DANGEROUS Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND. Mar. 27. There was a great finish in the Services’ Handicap and Valley Boy flashed up on the outside near the post to take the honours from Conspiracy, who had just got his head in front a little earlier. The field left to a good start, from which Silver Sam, Mountain Glory, Idle Jest, and Gay Rosina were soon prominent. Turning along the back near the sevenfurlong post Gay Rosina was the leader, closely attended by Silver Sam and Idle Jest, who were together ahead of Mountain Glory, Conspiracy, Tamaiti Kino,

Contango, Peter Nelson and Valley Boy. Near the turn Silver Sam moved up on the rails alongside Gay Rosina, and they were in front entering the straight from Idle Jest, Tamaiti Kino. Peter Nelson, Knight Templar, Conspiracy, and Valley Boy. The field spread across the course at the furlong post, where Silver Sam was just in front and Valley Boy was in the second line looking for a run. Conspiracy then dashed up on the oustide and Valley Boy also veered out to issue a challenge. Valley Boy snatched victory from Conspiracy almost on the post, beating him by a neck. Redingote also finished on to be another neck away third and Silver Sam was a close fourth ahead of Saffron Walden, Prince Rana, Tamaiti Kino, Knight Templar, and Contango. The three-year-old filly Chubin scored nicely in the Hauraki Handicap. Regality began smartly and led into the straight from Chatscourt, Beau Reve, Angeline, Chubin, and Coonbridge. The field spread across the track in the run home and Chubin finished strongly along the rails to win by a length from Rosslare, who also ran on solidly. Beau Reve was half a length away third and Regality, who tired in the last 100 yards, was fourth, followed by Coonbridge, Chatscourt, Lady Coronach, and Rizzio. Chubin was well ridden by N. B. Holland and had the run of the race. She handled the easy going very well. The favourite, Rizzio, became badly placed early and although he made a f forward move on the outside upon reaching the straight was never dangerous.
