COMMUNISTS’ ATTITUDE
EVENT OF WAR AGAINST RUSSIA PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 25. Communists the world over would oppose to the utmost any imperialistic war directed against Russia. The New Zealand Communist Party gave in effect, this reply to the Dominion president of the NZRSA, Sir Howard Kippenberger, who had asked the members of the party’s National Committee to define individually their attitude on, first, the declarations by Communist leaders in Finland. Belgium, Austria, Israel, Cuba and the Argentine, that Communists would fight for a Soviet victory in war; and, secondly, their attitude on a statement by an Australian Communist, Mr Sharkey, that if Soviet troops, in pursuit of aggressors, entered the Commonwealth, Australian workers would welcome them. The Communist Party did not give a plain yes or no answer, as requested by Sir Howard, but forwarded clippings from its official organ.
