FRESH HORSES FOR OAMARU
Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 25.. N. A. Crombie, who rode Balkis when she won the chief event at Oamaru on Wednesday, will again handle the Sir Beau filly to-morrow, when he will also ride Air Sonnet and probably Sweet Lorraine. Banshee will add interest to the Gardiner Memorial Handicap at Oamaru to-morrow. It is probable that she'will be ridden by C. F. King, an apprentice who shows considerable promise. Responsive, another newcomer, has only recently emerged from hack class and she shapes like further improvement. She will be handled by the successful South Canterbury apprentice, W. D. Skelton. M. R. Jones has been engaged to ride Show Mist and Silver Clipper at Oamaru. „ , . The apprentice, N. Eastwood, has gone to Invercargill, where he has engagements at the Birchwood Hunt meeting, on several horses from R. E. Humphries’s stable. Laidon's programme for Easter has not been definitely settled. In addition to steeplechase engagements at Riverton, he has been nominated for the Canterbury Park Jockey Club’s meeting. Helen Grattan, a candidate for the Landon Trot at Oamaru to-day was not started on Wednesday. A three-year-old filly by Josedale Grattan from Debris, she had her last race in the Second Trial Handicap at the Cheviot meeting and she finished fourth to Green Valley, Royal Volo, and President. Her dam is by Wrack from Paradox, by Brent Locanda from Emmeline, by Rothschild from Imperialism, by Prince Imperial. She is owned and trained by W. K. Tatterson.
