TOWN PLANNING SCHEME PROPOSAL FOR MOSGI& Mosgiel’s town planning scheme is almost complete. After many discussions the Mosgiel Borough Council has evolved a plan which will allow for expansion to a population of 8000 within the next 25 years. Before it can be put into action, however, the plan has to be approved by the Town Planning Board in Wellington. It is expected that it will come before the board within the next few months. Mr A. L. Gabites, an officer of the Town Planning Section of the Ministry of Works, has acted in an advisory capacity to the council. He advised the council yesterday, that if the plan were approved by the board a delegation comprising some of its members would go to Mosgiel to explain the plan to the public. A few residents of the borough might be disconcerted by some of the proposals involved in the scheme, Mr Gabites said, but the reasons for all the changes would be explained. The expansion of the borough which was proposed would be on the Mossburn side. The Silverstream would be one boundary and the area would extend towards the main railway. It was possible that the scheme would include a part of the Taieri County Council, and the co-operation of the county council had been obtained.
