“IGNORANT NONSENSE”

MR FRASER’S REPLY TO STATEMENT

PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 25. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, said to-night that he regarded the article by the Chicago Tribune as sheer uninformed and ignorant nonsense characteristic of the Chicago Tribune. “A full and complete reply could be published if we think it worth while to reply to anything from that ferociously isolationist anti-British quarter, which specialises in deliberately and carefully-prepared distortion and misrepresentation, not even so straightforward as a plain falsehood. “ The Tribune statement was quite equal to the statement from Russia the other day about the Maoris in New Zealand. Colonel McCormick (editor of the Tribune) and certain Soviet pressmen could be bracketed together as purveyors of wild, extravagant, and false statements so silly as to be selfdestructive,” Mr Fraser said.
