FILM THRILLERS “TOO EXCITING” FOR CHILDREN
NZPA Special Correspondent LONDON, Mar. 22. Film thrillers are “ too exciting ” for children, in the opinion of Lord Aberdare, honorary adviser to the J Arthur Rank organisation in children’s cinema clubs. He would like to see westerns and serials taken out of the programmes, and the general standard of entertainment raised. “ My objections to serials is based on the fact that they excite children too much,” said Lord Aberdare. Episodes end on exciting notes, with the result that the minds of the children who see them are fixed on this excitement throughout the week. There are no objections, however, to good serials. Westerns also are invariably too exciting, and are not true to life. Most of them have long dialogues, to which children do not listen.”
