SNOW IN OTAGO
EARLY WINTER INDICATED NO DANGER TO STOCK Falls of snow throughout Otago yesterday and Tuesday, following heavy rain and flooding during last week-end, gave further warning of a fast approaching winter. The falls were general in most parts of the province, but were confined mainly to the higher country. Mount Flagstaff received a slight coating on its higher slopes, and the fall seemed in keeping with the cold temperatures experienced in the city yesterday. At Alexandra, the hills and slopes were covered on Tuesday, and a light fall occurred in the town. It started about 5 p.m., but lasted for only five minutes. The ground was wet, but the snow did not lie. At Tapanui there was a heavier fall reported on the foothills of the Blue Mountains and near Kelso. Similar falls occurred at Roxburgh. Although there was a light fall in the hills around Ranfurly yesterday, it had disappeared soon after midday. None of the falls experienced in the province was heavy enough to be, of danger to stock on low pastures.
