NOTES ON THE RUNNING

TRIAL HANDICAP NO. I Scratchings for the first race obviated the necessity of running it in divisions, and Ferry Post won all the way. Swift and Nocturnal were badly left and Judge’s Writ began slowly. Ferry Post was followed out by Open Range, Lady Melville. Air Sonnet, and Village Beauty. Running past the four, Air Sonnet moved up to be second to Ferry Post, and then came Open Range and Lady Melville. Inspiring put in a good run on the bend and was handy to the leaders at the entrance to the straight, but ran wide and lost her position. Ferry Post was clear when they straightened up and galloped right away for an easy win from Open Range, who just beat Air Sonnet. Lady Melville was fourth and was followed in by Bright Robin. WESTON TROT Romany Lass and Helali began slowly in the first division and Aerogard led through the straight, followed by Willow Hall, Dowry, Prince Regent, Springpark, and Haughty Queen. There was little alteration across the top and past the seven Aerogard was pacing easily om In front from Dowry, who was followed by Willow Hall, Prince Regent, and Romany Lass, who had made up a lot of ground. Prince Regent went into the lead half a mile from home, where Kid Dale was making up ground fast. Into the straight it was Prince Regent from Aerogard and Kid Dale. Prince Regent tired in the run home and Aerogard won well from Kid Dale, who just headed Prince Regent. Nankin came from well back for fourth and then came Romany Lass, Haughty Queen and Willow Hall. In the second division Swithindale and Lady Teazle broke at the start and Trouville began smartly to lead past the stand from Red Sea, Final Return. Zontilier, Jovgiver and Metropolis. Trouville and Red Sea were still the leaders into the back and were followed by Final Return, Zontilier, Metropolis, Joygiver and Contempt. Metropolis moved up to Trouville on the bottom bend and they were followed into the straight by Zontilier, Contempt and Final Return. Trouville finished best to win from Meropolis, with Zontilier third and Contempt fourth. Joygiver and Final Return were next. TRIAL HANDICAP No. 2 City Light was restive at the start, and the field left in straggling order, Royal Saleve and Ruth's Pal losing a big stretch of ground. Tattoo was the first to show out, followed by Comeaway, Vainly and Silver Chase. Miro Chabo moved up fast at the half mile, and three furlongs from home Miro Chabo, Tattoo and Vainly were racing together ahead of Comeaway and Silver Chase. Sweet Lorraine and Boon Companion were starting to make up leeway. Miro Chabo dropped out. and Vainly shaded Silver Chase and Tattoo Into the straight, and Sweet Lorraine and Boon Companion were also in the call. The two last-named threw out strong challenges in the straight, but Vainly held on to win from Sweet Lorraine, with Boon Companion third and Silver Chase fourth Then came Tattoo, Sailor Girl and Comeaway. Bay Fort, Ara Chief and Nullah Running to the four, Bay Fort was the leader, with Grand Forest, Wandering Minstrel, Atreus. Ara Chief and Air Lord next. Prize Ring was second last and Boolamskee a long v;ay back. There was no alteration running to the straight, but once in line tor home Wandering Minstrel threw out a challenge to the leader, and beat him by a length, with Atreus a head away, followed by Ara Chief, Air Lord. Great Chum. Eve Acre and Nullah. OAMARU CUP They went away to a good line in the Cup, and Saieda and Tuatea just shaded n bunched field as they galloped past the

The last-named got a beautiful run on the rails, and come through for a three-length win from Tuatea, with Bren Gun a length further back. Speedy was fourth, and was followed in by Thornbridge, Bobby Dazzler. Revolte and Arctotis. WINDSOR HANDICAP, The field left to a good line, and running past the stands Sally Gazelle and Crease were showing the way to Running Brook and Zarcon. Rebel Knight was at the back of the field. As they went to the seven Maria moved up to take the lead, with Crease and Sally Gazelle and Running Brook next in a close-running field except for Rebel Knight. Maria was clear at the three, where Zarcon had moved up to second ahead of Crease. Sallv Gazelle and Running Brook. Maria was the first to turn for home from Zarcon, with Crease, Running Brook. Sally Gazelle, and Captious in the call. Getting a good run on the rails, Running Brook came through to win well from Cr°ase. who just beat Zarcon for second. There was a big gap back to Sally Gazelle. REDCASTLE TROT The Redcastle Trot was run in divisions, the first of which developed into a procession. Beginning brilliantly, Erndale went right away from the field, and running down the back he was about a dozen lengths ahead of Aerogard. who was a couole of lengths ahead of Prince Regent, with Swithindale and Bodyguard next. Prince Regent drifted on the bend, and Aerogard set sail after the leader, but never looked like catching him Swithindale was third and Red Lexie fourth in a strung-out field. In the second division Retribution began well, and was followed into the back by True Friend, Metropolis, Dillon Again, and Willow Hall. Metropolis took the lead at the five furlongs and went right away for the easiest of wins from Retribution, with Dillon Again third and Romany Lass fourth. True Friend and Willow Hall were next. PARKSIDE HACK HANDICAP Oronoko was slow to begin, and Philip Laing led out, followed by Vitamin, Bonne Nuit, Exchange, Post Graduate, and Dinnvliazer. At the four Vitamin went to the front, followed by Philip Laing, Exchange. Eonne Nuit, Post Graduate, Double Deck, Dinnvhazer. and Paper View Vitamin was first into the straight from Philip Laing, Bonne Nuit, Exchange, Paper View and Double Deck. Philip Laing dropped out. and Vitamin won decisively from Exchange, with Paper View just beating Double Deck for third. The next to finish were Philip Laing and Dinnyhazer.
