AWARD FOR PLASTIC ARMOUR INVENTOR
Rec. 9.30 p.m. LONDON, Mar. 10. ' The war-time invention of a plastic armour for ships earned an award of £9500 for R. Edward Terrell, a former captain in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. . . , . , . - The armour consisted of slabs or bituminous material impregnated with chips of hard stone backed by thin steel plate, costing £l2 10s a ton compared with £l5O for armour plating. At the end of the war 3000 merchant and 1000 naval vessels, including some American, have been fitted.
