EARLY CLOSING
MR FRASER GRATIFIED SUPPORTER OF ORIGINAL PROPOSAL PA NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 10. Gratification at the results of the referenda was expressed by the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, on arrival at New Plymouth. “ 1 am especially pleased at the people’s confirmation of 6 o’clock closing,” Mr Fraser continued. , “ I was one of those members of the House who supported the proposal moved by Mr C. A Wilkinson, then member for Egmont, in 1918 that made a regulation a law. The late Mr H. E. Holland, then the leader, and the late Mr James McCombs were also members of the Labour Party to support Mr Wilkinson’s move.” Mr Fraser added that he felt sure 6 o’clock closing was the. best procedure for New Zealand family life. “ I am also gratified that the people have shown that they prefer orderly, legal lanes of betting on horse racing to the present illegal system that has been all too prevalent,” stated the Prime Minister. “ The people have clearly shown their desire and the Government will do all possible to implement this decision as soon as possible."
