WOMEN CRICKETERS’ VISIT
Sir.—l should like to hand a laurel, to the Otago Women’s Cricket Association for securing a visit of the English women s team and raising the necessary cost (£100). I only hope that when they sent the guarantee, they told the team to bring their golf clubs with them, for the proposed site (North Ground) resembles Balmacewen golf links in many respects, with the exception of size. Only too often we hear a hue and cry being' set up about Otago being left out of a visiting team's programme, but I think we ask for it, for these touring women cricketers are given the best of facilities in any other centre, but Otago gives them a ground which would look like a cabbage patch in comparison to an English village green. I do not blame the caretakers or groundsmen for this short sightedness, but surely we could do better with, say, a pitch on the Caledonian Ground or the Oval. If the team's visit is worth £IOO, surely it is worth a decent pitch to play on. Trusting this will be read by a member of the Cricket Committee, so that something will be done about it. for you never know when another visit shall come along from them in the future. Let us make a good and lasting impression before it is regretted.—l am, etc., Mrs Immigrant.
