Mr D. H. Cockburn, the chairman of the Lake County Council andJi member of the Mam Highways Board, met the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, at Queenstown on Tuesday evening for a discussion on a number of Highways Board matters. The Mayor and Mayoress of Port Chalmers, Mr and Mrs T. Anderson, returned last night from the North Island, where they spent a holiday after the municipal conference at N Mi- er ' Victor G. Clement Jones, L.R.S.M. L.T.C.L., who recently was awarded the Charles Begg Scholarship in music at the .University of Otago for 1949, has received advice from Wellington that he has been awarded the Robert Parker Memorial Prize in Music for 1949 and 1950. This latter prize was , established by the late Mr Robert Parker, C.M.G.,_ one of New Zealand’s most distinguished musicians, for special excellence m practical and theoretical study of music, general academic qualifications being taken into account.
