LOUIS NOT RECOGNISED
PROMOTER OF WORLD TITLE BOUT
Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Mar- 8. Joe Louis failed to-day to obtain recognition from the New York State Athletic Commission for the proposed world heavy-weight boxing title fight between Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott. After a conference with Eddie Eagan, the commission’s chairman, Louis said he was told the commission would refuse to recognise one man bei,ng designated champion without surviving an eliminating series. Louis has already obtained sanction from the National Boxing Association to describe the Charles-Walcott fight as a world title bout. The National Boxing Association controls boxing throughout the United States except in New York State.
