Broie’s Second Day Form Was Promising
Improved by his race on the first day of the Dunedin meeting, Broie put tjip a good performance to finish second to Arctotis in the Wingatui Handicap, and was fighting on gamely at the post. Only a four-year-old, and still well down In the weights, Broie should have a good season now that he is returning to form. Last season he was raced 17 times for four wins and eight placings. His last race was in the Parliamentary Handicap at Trentham, and he put up a good performance to run second to Ruling Master, with Valley Boy third and Ballinagh fourth. He is from Pandy, who was got by Phaleron Bay from Pandia, by Chief Ruler from Panpipes, by Panmure from Pas Seul, by Soult. Jottings A. Stokes earned £99 in riding fees at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting. The Hob lost any chance he had in the Railway Handicap at Trentham by boring out badly. St. Bruno galloped, freely in the St. Leger at Trentham, but was drifting a long way from home. Excellency’s Winnings Excellency has earned £8903 in stakes for 12 wins and seven placings. Her mission on Saturday will be the North Island Challenge Stakes, which she won easily last year. Nominated for Timaru Wingatui horses nominated for the Timaru Cup are Arctotis, Bren Gun, Bobby Dazzler, and Grill. The nominations for the Doncaster Handicap include Bobby Dazzler. Duvaals, Moneybird. Special Flight, and Young Bob. Finished Well Sweet Lorraine appeared to be a bit unlucky in not galloping her way out of novice company at the Dunedin meeting. She came with a fine run over the concluding stages of her race on the first dav, and just failed to gather in the dead-heaters, Robin Redbreast and Dinnyhazer. On Saturday she came home well again" for fourth.
