POOR QUALITY ALLEGED RADIO ADVERTISERS PA •' TIMARU. Feb. 21. Objection to the quality of - the features and programmes offered to commercial advertisers was expressed at the annual conference of the New Zealand Retailers’Federation. “ The Government is exploiting the monopoly it has in featured programmes,” said Mr A. Jones (Dunedin) in sponsoring a remit drawing the attention of the Minister of Broadcasting to the matter. “ The commercial broadcasting service is now offering advertisers feature programmes which were put over from the YA stations two or three years ago and until these features are taken up by advertisers it appears.. that the service will not purchase anything new.” - Mr A. C. Sievwright (Wanganui) said the population .of New Zealand was too small to have good feature programmes. Good . programmes were available from overseas provided advertisers were prepared to , pay for them, but the cost would be prohibitive on a population basis. The present programmes were deplorably poor. The matter was referred back to affiliated associations for further information. vV., ' ....
