One passenger, with a girl who could- not jumped overboard when' it was -''obvious that the fire was beyond con‘Cjxol, and clung to. ' a beacon on; -Submerged rocks for almost an hour ' : "before being rescued. •v The other occupants,, a man and a 'woman, managed to reach the shore. Mr K. W. Hale, owner of the boat, ■ was near the engine when the .fire started. His clothes caught fire, and -be dived overboard. He suffered burns -•‘to the face, legs and hands, and was • 'admitted to the Rotorua Hospital.
