ELECTION OF OFFICERS PA AUCKLAND, Feb. 21. The fact that membership of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers now exceeded 1000 indicated its sound position, stated the president, Mr A. J. Dickson, at its annual meeting. The institution was continuing to place very strong emphasis on the necessity for good engineering education and training. Officers were appointed as follows: President, Mr H. C. Lusty (chief civil engineer, Railways Department, Wellington); past president, Mr A. J. Dickson; vice-presidents—Mr S. G. Scoular (Dunedin city engineer) and Mr F. Langbein (engineer-in-chief, Ministry of Works); ordinary members of the council—Messrs H. R. Back (Lower Hutt), K. H. Black, B. H. R. Green, F. M. H. Hanson, R. S. Maunder, C. W. O. Turner, and G. S. J. Read (Wellington), J. B. Rowntree (Auckland), R. A. Campbell and J. C. Forsyth (Christchurch); honorary council secretary, Mr F. W. Furkert.
