GREASY MERINOS FIRM A cablegram from London states that the London wool sales closed on Friday on a firm rate with competition good for all descriptions. Compared with opening sales, greasy Merinos were fully firm and sometimes in the sellers’ favour. Greasy crossbred over 50’s were in keen demand, and medium quality, although selling steadily, remained 10 per cent, cheaper. Continental demand for all skirtings were still strong, and scoured wool sold-con-sistently well throughout the series. Quotations (February 18): — Merinos (ordinary): 60/64's, 61d to 64d. Half bred: 56/58’s. 45d to 52d; 50/56’s, 38d to 4ld. Crossbreds: 48/50’s, 27d to 30d; 46/48’s, 26d to 28d; 44/46’s, 26d to 28d; 40/44’s, 26d to 28d. February 19:— Merino: 60’64’s—average 61d to 64d. Fine halfbred: 58’s-56/58’s—good 55d to 58d, average 48d to 48}d. Halfbred: 50/56’s-56’s—Super 48d to 51d, good 43d to 45d, average 38d to 41d. Fine crossbred: 50’s-48/50’s —Super 32d to 34d, good 30}d to 31}d, average 28d to 30d. Medium crossbred: 46’s-46/48’s —Super 30}d to 35d, good 28}d to 30d, average 26d to 28d. Fine crossbred hoggets: 50’s/54’s —Super 46d to 48d, good 42d to 45d, average 38d to 41d. Crossbred lambs: Average 36d to 37d. First crossbred pieces: Good 32d to 365, average 27d to 29d. Crossbred bellies: Good 27d to 28d, average 24d to 26d.
