Immigrants’ Outing Unqualified Success

An outing at Lawrence yesterday fpr British immigrants now living in Dunedin proved an unqualified success. It was arranged by Mr C. J. Hayward, chairman of the accommodation section of the Dunedin Immigration Welfare Committee, and by the Mayor of Lawrence, Mr W. J. Suters. Forty-four immigrants, both men and women, made the trip. A bus and two private cars took the party to Lawrence m the morning and brought the immigrants back last evening. The people of Lawrence opened their homes to the visitors, and many valuable acquaintances were made. The visitors spent a short time at Simpson Park, where a display was given by the Lawrence women’s marching team. ', v In the afternoon, the Immigrants were taken to Gabriel’s Gully, where they panned for gold, some with success. Mr Hayward told the Daily Times last night that the outing had been as successful as was hoped, and other similar outings for immigrants were planned. He expressed appreciation of the response made by Mr Suters and the .Deople of Lawrence, who had contributed so generously to that success.
