RESOLUTION OPPOSING CONSCRIPTION ADOPTED BY TRAMWAYS UNION

PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. Resolutions opposing conscription were adopted to-day by the National Executive of the New Zealand Tramways Employees’ UnionThe national secretary of the union, Mr P. A. Hansen, in a statement, said that in answer to questions sent to branches of the National Executive, no branch expressed support for peacetime conscription. On the contrary, branches representing a distinct majority of the membership were opposed to conscription. The National Executive therefore resolved that the delegates of the union to any conference called /by the Federation of Labour would be instructed to oppose peace-time conscription. Mr Hansen said that the executive affirmed also its support for the traditional opposition of the trade union movement to conscription.
