TWO KILLED, TWO INJURED IN CRASH ON SOUTH ROAD

A tragic accident occurred at a bend in the Main South road known as Young’s Corner, about half a mile from the Clarendon Railway Station, about 5.15 p.m. yesterday, when a motor car and a heavily-laden furniture lorry collided, and two of those in the car were killed and two others seriously injured. KILLED Gordon McDonald, miner, Stirling, married with two children. John Gray, aged 27, trucker, single, Kaitangata. INJURED Thomas Prescott, aged 24, miner, single, Kaitangata, serious head injuries, believed to be fractured skull. John Gilmour, aged 30, miner, single, Kaitangata, serious head and other injuries. Another passenger in the car, John Leslie Sutton, aged 20, a trucker, of Kaitangata, escaped without injury. The corner where the accident took place has been the scene of several other accidents. The car was owned and driven by McDonald, and the truck was owned by Crust and Crust, of Dunedin, the driver being William Henry Osborne, of Dunedin. The car appeared to have strtick the right front mudguard of the lorry and was very badly damaged, but the lorry was able to be driven away under its own power. An inquest will probably be opened at Milton to-day.
