He made his first start from Heasley’s stable last Saturday. He is a six-year-old gelding by Siegfried from Stone Frigate, by Nightmarch from the Stonyhurst-bred Sailor’s Love, and is another that can be expected to do well as a jumper. At the Manawatu meeting to-day Super Snipe will be having her first race since she won the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham in attractive style. She should prove too brilliant for the opposition at Awapuni to-day. The Ruthless filly is engaged in the Great Northern Foal Stakes. At Awapuni Torrent, one of the favourites for the Grandstand Handicap at the Manawatu meeting, is a four-year-old mare by Tiderace from Lady Derby. At the Feilding meeting last month she was second to Miss Bairnsfather in the Manchester Handicap, of a mile and a-quarter, and at the Woodville meeting on December 4 she ran third to Beau Or and Emerge in the Gothard Handicap, of a mile and a-quarter. In her present form Torrent should pay her way during the holidays. Lord Manna Improving

Lord Manna, whose name was recently removed from the schooling list, has since won two races on the flat at Woodville and Otakl, and, judged by the easy manner in which he won on both occasions, he is going to develop useful staying form. The high-weight field he defeated at Otaki was not a good one, but he had the race in safe keeping a long way from home. He has had three wins and three minor placlngs in seven starts this season for £635 in stakes. Lord Manna started racing as a four-year-old last season, and he was unplaced in six starts.
