FICTITIOUS MESSAGE TO , POLICE PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. Pleading guilty to having telephoned the Central Police Station .a s message “Will you send somebody around to 35 Hay street, there has been a murder here.” Paul Desire Verschaeffelt, of 35 Hay street Wellington, was fined £5 by Mr H. J. Thompson, S.M., to-day. Verschaeffelt said he had telephoned the. message in the hope of it reaching a particular police sergeant with whom he wanted to have a joke. The magistrate said such jokes had to be discouraged. The charge was of conveying a fictitious message to the police.
