PEACHES AND APRICOTS ON SALE

BUSY WEEK IN MARTS

Heavy supplies of fruit and vegetables made the week an exceptionally busy one in the citv fruit marts. Prices, which were low at the beginning of the week, Improved towards the week-end. Strawberries and cherries came forward in heavy supply. The prices for cherries continued to be low throughout the week, but those for strawberries were better at the week-end. Tomatoes continued to be in heavy supply and prices were a little easier. Gooseberries were slow of sale. The supplies of cucumbers were plentiful. Peaches, raspberries, red and black currants, plums and apricots made their first appearance of the season during the week, and were keenly sought after by buyers. They brought good prices. Peaches, however, were cheaper yesterday. The sale of lemons was steadier. Spring cabbage and cauliflower were in heavy supply and prices were low. Green peas and carrots were in over-supply at the beginning of the week, but values firmed towards the week-end. Choice quality lettuce were keenly sought after ana brought extreme prices. Rhubarb was selling well. There was a good demand for local potatoes, which are in excess of the demand. , _ .
