KIWIS IN CAPTIVITY AT GAME FARM
xnese pictures of the only kiwis in captivity in New Zealand were taken at the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society’s game farm at Greenmeadows. The latest arrival, a male chick, was hatched by the male bird after 76 days on the nest. “Peg Leg Pete” (left), a kiwi which lost a leg when he was caught in a trap. He has been fitted with an artificial limb at the game farm. The male bird (below) guarding the newly-hatched chick.
