BROCKIE LIKELY TO BE PROMINENT IN RUNNING OF TAPANUI HANDICAP

From the numerical point of view the fields for the Tapanui meeting, to be held at Gore to-morrow, are probably the best that have ever contested the events on a Tapanui card, and provision has been made for running four of the races in divisions.

A field of eighths carded for the principal event, the Tapanui Handicap, and Brockie, who won the President’s Handicap at the Geraldine meeting, will be one of the favourites. He carried 7.11 last Saturday and has 7.9 to-morrow. He looks the pick of the handicap. Gunther’s four most recent races have produced two wins, a second, and a third. His last race was at the Southland meeting last month when he ran The Grate to a head in the Southland Handicap. Super Flight is due for improvement and Aganev would only need to be at something like her best to reach a place here. As is usually the case on the minor circuit, the two events for pacers run to great length and give variety to a card that should provide interesting racing. Second Division: Victory Flight, Bridgehead, Queen Argosy. 12.30: Trial Handicap. —First Division: Balmoral, Castle Bar, Salma Royal. Second Division: Olio, Sweet Lorraine, Turora. 1.15: Mclntyre Trot.— First Division: Jingle’s Pride, Tautuku, Plausible. Second Division: Amarant, Ebony Hall, Nedlands. 2.0 : Tapanui Handicap. —Brockie, Gunther, Super Flight. 2.45: Dwyer Memorial Handicap.—Prawns, Mount Barker, Golden Chips. 3.30: Fassifem Trot.— Brooksby Hall-Bradley bracket, Sierra Sue, Armadillo. 4.15: Stewards’ Hack Handicap.— Night Rider, The Turk, Royal Lark. 5,0 : Quin Memorial Handicap. —Gunther-Sea Flower bracket, Pageantry, Bath Slipper.
