BURNS CLUB

ENJOYABLE CONCERT

Seasonal decorations in the foyer and on the stage of the Concert Chamber gave a Christmas atmosphere to the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Burns Club on Wednesday night. . . The president, Mr W. Brown, extended a welcome to a large number of visitors and also gave a short talk on poems which Burns had written for this season of the year. He reminded his listeners that in Scotland, at the time of Burns, it was New Year’s Day rather than Christmas which was observed as a holiday, and that would account for his comparatively slight mention of any Christmas rejoicing. An instrumental quartet comprising Misses J. Kinsman, K. Kinsman. Wentworth, and Eckhold opened the programme, and other items were provided by Mrs Caldwell. Misses Marion Duncan, Heather Douglas, Campbell, H. Wheeler, M. Cantwell, Messrs B. Hogue, J. Paterson, A. Macdonald, and Masters F. and S. Bridgman.
