“HAMLET”

SEASON EXTENDED TRANSFER TO STRAND The greatly improved attendances at the Regent Theatre in the past two days have caused Kerridge-Odeon, Ltd., to extend the Dunedin season of Sir Laurence Olivier’s “ Hamlet,” and to transfer it to the only theatre available, the Strand. The film will commence its second week at the Strand to-day. In the early part of its screening in the city, attendances were such that the film was being shown at a loss. When the public realised that the season was to be a short one, attendance figures rose, and last night’s audience was an excellent one for a Thursday night. “Hamlet” was widely discussed in the city yesterday, and there appeared to be a general feeling that it would be regrettable if the season were to end last night. It seems likely that many thousand people who neglected to attend the first week’s screening will now avail themselves of the opportunity of seeing what has been acclaimed overseas ejs a masterpiece in motion pictures. Further opportunities will also be given pupils of secondary schools to attend matinees.
