IDEAL CONDITIONS

Ideal weather prevailed for the opening of the North Otago Cricket Association’s competitions at Oamaru and Kurow on Saturday. In the match between Union and Oamaru A. Union won the toss and batted on a perfect wicket. J, Kinder gave an aggressive display to score 72 in 43 minutes before being caught. Kinder was dropped in the slips before he opened his score, which included two 6’s and eight 4’s. Hore and Collings also batted soundly in making 43 and 36 respectively. Currie and Beatson bowled well to take three for 43 and three for 16 respectively. At stumps Oamaru had lost six wickets for 157 runs. B. Dick and D. Maclntyre batted soundly to make 46 and 39 respectively, while Wilson added 27 and S. Dick 25. Oamaru B 'made 148 runs In its first innings against Kurow, at Kurow, and Kurow was dismissed for 81. At stumps Oamaru had made 19 runs without loss in the second innings. Waitaki Boys' High School first eleven was dismissed for 141 in its first innings against Albion, and at stumps Albion had lost seven wickets for 126 runs. Junior Grade St. Kevin's first eleven gained a first innings win over Waitaki C by 22 runs. Waitaki A declared at 136 for seven wickets (Dagg 59, Crawford 28; Young four wickets for 14 runs). Third Grade Waitaki A beat Enfield by an innings and 16 runs. Enfield made 18 runs in its first innings (E. Siggleko 9; Perriam four wickets for no runs, Watson three for none). Eight of Enfield's batsmen failed to score. In its second Innings Enfield made 52 runs (Taylor 47, Hendebourck 15; Perriam three wickets for no runs, Broad two for 2, Alexander two for 7). Waitaki made 96 runs (Thomas 23, Perriam 21; Taylor four wickets for 15 runs, Hescok three for 22, Hendebourck three for 34). Waitaki B gained a first innings win over St. Kevin’s by 45 runs.
